Mountain Policies

Lift & Slope Access

RFID ticketing: RFID cards should be kept in a pocket on their own, NOT in your wallet, with your cell phone or with debit or credit cards. Our cards are scanned via a handheld scanner and can be kept anywhere on your person, just show the ticket checker where the card is located. Keep your RFID card after your visit, it will be reloaded each time you purchase a product, even from this season to the next.

Know Your Responsibility Code

  1. Always stay in control. You must be able to stop or avoid people and/or objects.

  2. People ahead or downhill of you have the right-of-way. You must avoid them.

  3. Stop only where you are visible from above, and do not restrict traffic.

  4. Look uphill and avoid others before starting downhill or entering a trail.

  5. You must prevent runaway equipment.

  6. Read and obey all signs, warnings and hazard markings.

  7. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.

  8. You must be able to load, ride and unload lifts safely. If you need assistance, ask the lift attendant.

  9. Do not use lifts or terrain when impaired by alcohol or drugs.

  10. If you are involved in a collision or incident, share your contact information with each other and a ski area employee.

Winter sports involve risk of serious injury or death. Your knowledge, decisions and actions contribute to your safety and that of others. If you need help understanding The Code, please ask any ski area employee.

Mountain Environment: USE AT OWN RISK

You are entering a mountain environment. This means you may slip, fall and experience rugged conditions such as snow, ice, water, rocks, branches, grass, trees and other natural or unnatural obstacles. Uneven terrain may exist anywhere on the mountain and elsewhere on the property. Sturdy footwear is strongly recommended. Please be aware that vehicles and heavy machinery operate frequently, including snowmobiles, groomers, trucks, ATVs and RTVs. This is an active ski resort, please be extremely conscious of your surroundings. By entering the mountain area, you are aware of the mountain conditions and are entering at your own risk.

Inclement Weather Policy

Cannon Mountain operates recreational services rain, snow or shine. On occasion, we may close operations for inclement weather, including lightning, wind, cold temperatures, snow or all other natural events. Note that some products may be eligible for refund or resort credit in the event of closure.

Lift Safety

LOADING

  1. Get prepared and be ready! Take your pole straps off and hold your ski poles in one hand. Check for loose clothing and equipment.
  2. Backpacks should be removed.
  3. Group up with your riders and get on the same page before proceeding to the lift maze.
  4. If you would like the chair slowed, tell the operator before moving into the queue. Let them know if you need the chair slowed at the top as well.
  5. Line up with your group at the wait board and follow the chair in front of you to the load board.
  6. Line up with the yellow “load here” signs. Remember to keep your skis straight ahead and look behind you for the incoming chair.
  7. Grab onto the side of the chair and sit back to pull yourself onto the chair.
  8. Scoot and pull yourself all the way into the chair so your back is fully touching the seat back; as a group, bring down the safety bar.
  9. Be sure to notify your chairmates that the bar will be coming down to avoid any contact between the bar and an unaware passenger.

RIDING

Make friends and sit tight! Chat about the weather, the conditions, where everyone is from or anything else that may come to mind. Use the time to get to know your fellow skiers. Talk about anything, but DO NOT:

  1. Horse around.
  2. Turn around in the chair.
  3. Get things out of your pockets—No one wants to drop their phone off the chair!
  4. Throw things from the chair.
  5. Click your skis.
  6. Swing, rock or bounce the chair.

UNLOADING

  1. When coming into the terminal, wait until everyone is ready to raise the bar! This means sitting back in the seat and taking your feet off the bar foot rest.
  2. Check for loose equipment and ensure your backpacks and fanny packs are loose from the chair and ready to move with you.
  3. Keep your tips up and look for the yellow “unload” signs.
  4. When aligned with the signs, stand up with authority and slide down the ramp. Do not hold onto the chair!
  5. Move out of the way quickly so the next guests have plenty of room to unload.
  6. If you happen to fall or leave something behind, clear out of the way as soon as you are able, the lift operators will be paying attention and can assist you more effectively if you’re off to the side.

Uphill Policy

Uphill travel will be permitted this season, but only with a valid full-day lift ticket, season pass or an uphill season pass. You must stop in at Guest Services to collect your uphill armband. Anyone on the mountain without and armband will be asked to turn around.

Armbands are non-transferable and non-refundable . Season pass holders must pick up their complimentary armband after uphill policy & waivers have been signed at Guest Services. If your armband is lost or stolen you will be required to purchase a new one for $99.

EQUIPMENT:
We strongly recommend you wear brightly colored clothing for visibility purposes. For the purposes of this policy, “skinning” shall refer to the practice of traveling uphill on skis while utilizing traction skins on the bases of one’s skis. This policy shall not allow uphill hiking, snowshoeing or any other means of uphill travel. Cannon Mountain is a ski and snowboard recreation area, thus self-powered uphill travel must include the use of skins on appropriate ski and snowboard equipment. Those involved in the practice of skinning shall be referred to hereinafter as “skiers,” and are equally subject to the parameters of CHAPTER 225-A SKIERS, SKI AREA AND PASSENGER TRAMWAY SAFETY Section 225-A:24 as such.

LIABILITY:
Said "skinners" shall be responsible for understanding and following CHAPTER 225-A
SKIERS, SKI AREA AND PASSENGER TRAMWAY SAFETY Section 225-A:24 and the “Responsibility Code,” as set forth by National Ski Areas Association (NSAA).

LAST TRIP UP: 3 p.m.
We stop permitting uphill traffic at 3 p.m.
No matter when you purchase your ticket or start an uphill climb, if patrol encounters you during sweep after the mountain closes, you will be required to turn around and ski down.
 

HOURS AVAILABLE:
Skinning shall occur ONLY during normal hours of operation, while lifts are turning at Cannon Mountain (8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. during weekend/holiday periods and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. during midweek/non-holiday periods) and when the designated route is considered open for normal ski area operations. Off-hours access to Cannon’s slopes is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Skinning and grooming/snowmaking at night do not mix and those who do, jeopardize the entire program and risk serious injury.

PRESCRIBED ROUTE:
The prescribed skinning route shall be (from the bottom up):
Lower Ravine to…Middle Ravine to…Upper Ravine to…The first (lowest) entry onto Taft Slalom…Taft Slalom to the summit of Cannon Mountain and shall be marked as such on the downhill skier’s left side of the trails in question, utilizing a small sign mounted on bamboo and/or PVC and set well out of the travel area on the trails in question. Skinners shall travel on the downhill skier’s left (uphill skinner's right) during the entire uphill trek. Please stay single file and as close to the edge of the trail as possible.

Any open route may be used for downhill traffic, but the skinner must utilize only the prescribed uphill route each time.

Waiver Policy

All guests recreating on trails or slopes, winter and summer, must possess a valid pass or ticket and complete a waiver.

Permitted Devices

Cannon Mountain’s winter operations (ski lifts and trails) are designed for use by guests using alpine skis and/or snowboards affixed to their feet by a range of binding systems and standardized adaptive ski devices and equipment for individuals with disabilities. Allowed devices will have metal edges and a retention system such as a leash or properly working brakes which must be worn at all times. A person who has a disability is allowed to utilize any equipment that has been designed and manufactured primarily for use by individuals who have disabilities. Examples of such ski equipment include but are not limited to sit-skis, monoskis, outriggers, blind bibs, etc.

Cannon Mountain reserves the right to change or update this policy at any time, for any reason.

THE FOLLOWING DEVICES ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE TRAILS AND LIFTS AT ANY TIME:

  • Drones
  • Sleds, tubes, saucers and toboggans
  • Body sleds
  • Snowmobiles (except by authorized personnel accessing the mountain for operating purposes)
  • Tandem skis
  • Babies in backpacks
  • Snow scooters
  • Snow skates without metal edges or retention device
  • Onewheels
  • Fat tire and mountain bikes

THE FOLLOWING DEVICES ARE ALLOWED:

  • Alpine/telemark skis
  • Snowboards
  • Snowblades/ski boards
  • Snowdecks with metal edges and a leash
  • Ski bikes with restraint devices and/or designed to fall over on detachable lift only
  • Ski trikes with restraint devices and/or designed to fall over on detachable lift only

Park Smart

While the terrain park can be fun and challenging, it’s important to consider the risks that accompany skiing or riding on features in the park.

Be sure to be Park SMART:

  • Start Small – Work your way up and build your skills.
  • Make a Plan – Every feature. Every time.
  • Always Look – Before you drop.
  • Respect – The features and other users.
  • Take it Easy – Know your limits. Land on your feet.

Dog Policy

Dogs are permitted on hiking trails and designated dog walk areas only.

Service animals specifically trained to aid people with disabilities are welcome in our base area and buildings. Please clean up after your dog.

No dogs or service animals are permitted to ride any ski lift(s).

Smoking Policy

Smoking of any kind is prohibited within 10 feet of a building entrance, window or lift at Cannon Mountain. Please do not leave cigarette butts on the ground. Please respect our fragile mountain environment and other guests around you.

All lift pack products are non-refundable, non-transferable to another person and may not be resold.

EARLY PURCHASE PASS ASSURANCE:
Valid through Nov. 28, 2024
100% Credit Option: Through Nov. 28, 2024, if you request a credit on your pass purchase the full amount you paid will be used towards a 25/26 season pass.

Refunds (fees apply): Through Nov. 28, 2024, you may request a refund on your pass purchase. Any refunds will be subject to a $50 processing fee per transaction. If you choose to add on the $50 spring skiing deal, we will only consider refunds for illness, injury or life-altering events that prevent you from skiing, with medical documentation (on a case-by-case basis).

IN-SEASON PASS ASSURANCE
Dates Valid: Nov. 29, 2024–April 13, 2025*
*(projected closing, subject to change)

Effective Nov. 29, 2024: Cannon Mountain will consider resort credits or refunds for illness or injury or life-altering events that prevent you from skiing, with medical documentation (on a case-by-case basis). A pro-rated refund may be requested for illness or injury but is subject to final approval and a $50 processing fee per transaction.

FAVORABLE WEATHER IS NOT GUARANTEED
Cannon Mountain does not guarantee the weather or length of the season and does not issue credits or refunds for season passes for situations that cause a closure due to unfavorable weather. This includes wind holds, single-day or multi-day closures, a late start or an early end to the season due to unfavorable weather or a lack of snow.

Lift Tickets, Lessons & Rentals Cancellation

Refund Policy
All lift tickets, lessons and rental products are non-refundable, non-transferable to another person, and may not be resold. Unused tickets are forfeited and non-refundable. All lift pack products are non-refundable and non-transferable. Any remaining days on lift pack products expire at the end of the season and cannot be refunded, transferred or credited. All uphill pass products are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Cancellation Policy
Visitors can receive a resort credit for lift tickets, lessons and rental products in the full amount purchased if a cancellation request is made no later than 3 p.m. of the day prior to your scheduled day of arrival.

Mountain Closure Policy
In the event of mountain closure, ticket, lesson and rental reservations will be refunded or issued as a resort credit, whichever the guest prefers.

Lodges & Bag Check

We will operate at normal building occupancy, with the exception of the Tram Summit building which will operate at 50% occupancy in order to maintain our water conservation initiatives. In all buildings, claiming tables is not allowed.

No bags, shoes, or personal belongings can be left in the seating areas of the lodges.
You can bring items into the lodge to change/get ready. You can utilize our FREE bag check, our outdoor cubbies, or taken them with you when you when you leave. No items or coolers can be left inside the buildings unattended. 

Gear storage options:
FREE, self-service bag check is available downstairs in Peabody Lodge during off-peak periods.
FREE, supervised bag check is available on weekend and peak periods downstairs in Peabody Lodge.
•Utilize other options to store your gear:
•Store belongings in your car.
•Take your belongings in a small backpack with you when you leave the lodge.
•All unattended items will be removed.

Bag Check Details
Don't want to bring your gear back to your car? Use our FREE, Bag Check located conveniently on the lower level of Peabody Lodge. During peak periods the Bag Check will be supervised by an employee. During off-peak periods Bag Check will be self-served. Opens and closes in conjunction with building times for Peabody Lodge.

Main Base Area: Peabody & Notchview Lodge Hours:
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. weekends/peak periods
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. midweek/non-holiday

Tram buildings
Tram Summit Lodge will be open seven days a week whenever the summit trails are open. Tram Base Lodge will be open when the tram operates on Saturdays and Sundays and other select peak period dates

Ernie's Haus
Ernie's Haus will operate as a temporary warming area for the public this season on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Restrooms and cubbies will be available. No items may be left on the floor.

Mittersill Base Area
The Mittersill public warming hut will be open this season. Gear storage is not allowed, and outdoor pit toilets are available.

Other Resort Policies

Helmets
Helmets are not required at Cannon Mountain.

Outside Alcohol
Outside alcohol is expressly prohibited at Cannon Mountain.
