Mittersill Backcountry Area:
Unfortunately, today was mostly a wash - all lifts are now closed for the day due to high winds, including the Brookside lift. The flip side is that we're picking up some natural snow at the same time...we've logged a windblown inch as of mid-day and another 1-3" is possible through the evening. We'll drop the ropes on Easy Link, and Middle & Lower Ravine for Tuesday, which will feature ungroomed manmade snow...so if you like playing around on manmade features like we do, then you should have a pretty enjoyable day out there. It's also 2-Fer Tuesday - tickets are just 2-for-$72! On a side note, congrats to our hometown hero Bode Miller for his 2nd place finish in the GS race at Beaver Creek over the weekend...his first GS podium since 2007. This puts Bode 7th overall in the world cup standings. Bode will return to Cannon this April for Bodefest - go fast Bode!
Tuesday - we plan to open at 9am with 14 trails & 3 lifts (please note that Easy Link, and Middle & Lower Ravine may open late). The Peabody Express & Zoomer chairs service intermediate & advanced skiing/riding, and for beginner terrain please stick to the Brookside lift. Also, a small but impressive terrain park with 3 rails & 2 jumps is located near the base area. Groomers plan to smooth out 11 of 14 trails overnight, but check back in the AM for an update on surface conditions.
Looking Ahead - Snowmaking crews will fire up again overnight on Lower Ravine, Zoomer, Raven Ridge, Bear Paw, Deer Run, and Huckerbrook, with fan guns on Tossup, Brookside, Tuckerbrook Base, and Zoomer Base. We're shooting to have some of that terrain open by the weekend. Then it's on toward the summit and Tram!
