Hiking

Keep in mind: it begins to get dark by 6:30pm in late summer and fall. Plan to start your hike early and bring a headlamp, or turn around if you cannot complete your hike before nightfall and need the shuttle. There have been several search and rescue missions this summer! Use caution when hiking and turn around if you are struggling.

Please note: There is an active restoration project all summer 2023 on the Franconia Ridge Loop trail system. AMC and National Forest crews will be on site Monday - Thursday. Please use extreme caution when moving in and around work zones. Pay attention to signage and listen to what trail crews ask of you. For more information on why this project is happening please see our Restoration Page.

There are miles and miles of hiking trails within Franconia Notch State Park and the surrounding White Mountain National Forest, including a portion of the Appalachian Trail.
